Spentys and atum3D partner up to introduce point-of-care 3D printing of immobilizers in hospitals

Spentys offers the first 3D scanning, 3D modelling and 3D printing platform that allows orthopaedic surgeons and healthcare providers to replace traditional gypsum casts and splints with personalised orthopaedic immobilisation devices that are light, waterproof and tailor-made.

atum3D offers integral, application-specific 3D printing solutions based on the industrial-grade DLP Station printer range. DLP Station offers exceptional speed, accuracy, versatility and value. atum3D combines the proprietary features of both its hardware and software with an open resin platform, which enables using any third-party resin with DLP Station printers. Extensive in-house chemical expertise and active partnerships with leading resin suppliers allow atum3D to tailor custom solutions to fit the specific application and requirements.

This collaboration aims to combine forces and expertise, enabling point-of-care manufacturing of immobilisation devices in the emergency department. Through advanced software technology, proprietary algorithms and Spentys’ surgeon-friendly interface, surgeons and healthcare providers will be able to scan, model and print from a simple user interface, all in the hospital or practice itself.

“3D printed customised splints & casts contain many advantages for patients: they are lighter than traditional solutions, they are waterproof, and the open structure makes them more comfortable,” said Florian De Boeck, Spentys’ co-founder & CTO.

‍

"This easy-to-use software platform, combined with the DLP technology of atum3D, will reduce the entire process of scanning, modelling, printing, and post-treatment to less than 2 hours"

‍

“We’re excited to support the leap forward we believe in-hospital production of Spentys immobilisers holds, with significant benefits for both healthcare providers and patients alike,” adds Juan Vertelman, Commercial Director at atum3D. “Working together with Spentys and resin suppliers, we’ve customised DLP Station settings and created a specific resin formulation to fit the requirements of this application optimally.”

“With our easy-to-use software platform, it is not necessary to hire a 3D specialist as a hospital." Louis-Philippe Broze, co-founder & CEO of Spentys says. “Our proprietary algorithms fully automatically model the immobiliser after which the surgeon or healthcare provider can easily and quickly make adjustments to the design.” “And because Spentys works so closely with hospitals and surgeons, we managed to develop a workflow that fits seamlessly into the hospital’s current patient flow and workflow.” Louis-Philippe Broze, co-founder & CEO of Spentys added.

Since 2017, Spentys has already introduced more than 50 different immobilization devices on the European market and has produced more than a thousand 3D-printed splints in Belgium and is rapidly expanding its service to other countries in Europe, starting with the Netherlands, Switzerland, France and the UK.
